New EU regulations will soon require businesses to adopt e-invoicing systems. While this might sound daunting, particularly if you’re self employed, LSP.expert has got you covered. We’ve been working away behind the scenes and have partnered with an industry leader to make your transition to e-invoicing smooth and cost-effective.
What's Changing and When?
From the 1st of January 2026, translators and interpreters in Belgium and Switzerland will be required to issue and receive e-invoices.
French translators and interpreters will be required to do the same from the 1st of September 2026.
By rolling out this system across all member states, the European Union hopes to:
automate invoice processing and payment
eliminate input errors
reduce printing costs
reduce VAT fraud
simplify VAT reporting
enable real-time business activity tracking
Businesses will be required to issue an e-invoice in specific situations (which vary by country).
For example, in Belgium, self-employed professionals must issue an e-invoice when selling a service to a business (B2B). Transactions with private individuals (B2C) and transactions with foreign businesses are not affected.
Freelancers must also be able to receive e-invoices.
How E-Invoicing Works
Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) is a secure document exchange network that enables businesses and government bodies to communicate through standardised files in .UBL or .CII format.
To comply with the new e-invoicing regulations, you’ll need to use a government-approved e-invoicing platform (PDP). These platforms are paid services, and prices vary depending on the number of e-invoices processed.
LSP.expert Partners with Billit
LSP.expert is a comprehensive project management solution for translators and interpreters, and while hundreds of users send invoices daily through our platform, we're not an accounting software.
Rather than building expensive in-house e-invoicing (and passing costs to you), we've partnered with Billit, a trusted e-invoicing specialist starting at €7.50/month (ex VAT).
Simple Setup
Create your Billit account.
Generate e-invoices directly in LSP.expert: open any invoice and click Action > Create in Billit.
Your invoice automatically appears in Billit.
Log into Billit to validate and transmit e-invoices through Peppol.
Note: If you already integrate LSP.expert with Quickbooks, which is already compatible with e-invoicing, you can send your invoices to your accounting software with one click (and the Billit integration is not needed).
Whether or not you use an accounting software, you can easily share e-invoice copies with your accountant through LSP.expert.
Why We Chose This Approach
At LSP.expert, we always prioritise our customers’ interests and we believe that transparency matters. When faced with mandatory e-invoicing requirements, we had two options:
Exploit the situation and raise LSP.expert subscription prices
Protect our community and partner externally while maintaining current rates
We chose to protect you. You'll only pay Billit for your actual e-invoice volume.
Real-World Cost Example: A freelance translator sending 25 e-invoices monthly pays approximately €20 (ex VAT) in total: €12.50 LSP.expert Freelancer subscription (when paid annually) + €7.50 to Billit.
